St. Paul’s current building was designed in 1927 by Frederick H. Spier in the Romanesque style. The brick building includes stained-glass windows that were constructed in Munich, vaulted ceilings, and a large tower that overlooks the town of Red Wing. The church expanded in 1997 with the addition of an education wing designed by SMSQ Architects. St. Paul’s is a contributing structure in the National Register-listed Red Wing Mall Historic District.
St. Paul’s shares space with many programs and organizations. Hope and Harbor, a rotating overnight homeless shelter for adults, offers meals, access to showers and laundry facilities, hygiene products, haircuts, and a place to sleep for up to twenty individuals each night during the cold winter months. St. Paul’s also hosts the American Red Cross, Faith in Action, the Red Wing Food Shelf, the Sheldon Theatre, and many others.
A National Fund grant of $300,000 matched with $300,000 raised by the congregation would allow St. Paul’s to address urgent roof and masonry repairs.
