Newburyport, Massachusetts
St. Paul’s of Newburyport, Massachusetts, was founded in 1711 and is the oldest continuously operating Episcopal parish in Massachusetts.
St. Paul’s current building was built in 1922 after its predecessor was destroyed by fire. It was designed by William Graves Perry, founder of a renowned Boston firm known for its restoration of Colonial Williamsburg.
Throughout its 315-year history, St. Paul’s has served as a community anchor: it founded the Women’s Crisis Center and currently houses the Among Friends Meals Program, the Resettlement Partnership, and Community Service of Newburyport. The Among Friends Meals Program, founded in 1986, has grown from 90 meals weekly in 2020, to over 400 meals weekly in 2026, reaching approximately 1,500 individuals monthly across five Essex County towns. Elderly residents, people with disabilities, low-income families, individuals in recovery, and those experiencing homelessness can receive meals through delivery, take-away, and in-person options.
A National Fund grant of $100,100 with $100,100 in matching funds raised by the congregation will fund the rehabilitation of St. Paul’s thirty-four historic windows.
